sodium hydroxide pearls for soap making
sodium hydroxide for soap
1. Basic Properties
Sodium hydroxide for soap , with the chemical formula NaOH, commonly known as caustic soda, caustic soda, or caustic soda, is a highly corrosive base. It typically occurs in flake or granular form. It is readily soluble in water (dissolving in water releases heat) to form an alkaline solution. It is also deliquescent, readily absorbing water vapor (deliquescing) and carbon dioxide (deteriorating) from the air.
NaOH is an essential chemical in chemical laboratories and a common chemical product. Its pure form is colorless, transparent crystals with a density of 2.130 g/cm³. Its melting point is 318.4°C and its boiling point is 1390°C. Its industrial form contains small amounts of sodium chloride and sodium carbonate and is white, opaque crystals. It can be found in blocks, flakes, granules, and rods. Its formula weight is 40.01. Sodium hydroxide for soap is used as an alkaline cleaning agent in water treatment. It is soluble in ethanol and glycerin but insoluble in propanol and ether. It is also corrosive to sodium carbonate at high temperatures. It undergoes a disproportionation reaction with halogens such as chlorine, bromine, and iodine, neutralizing acids to form salt and water.
2. Physical and Chemical Properties
Sodium hydroxide is a white, translucent, crystalline solid. Its aqueous solution has an astringent and greasy taste.
It is easily deliquescent in air.
Solid alkali is highly hygroscopic. When exposed to air, it absorbs water molecules from the air and eventually dissolves completely into a solution. However, liquid sodium hydroxide is not hygroscopic.
It is highly soluble in water, releasing a large amount of heat upon dissolution. It is readily soluble in ethanol and glycerin.
3. Main Uses
Sodium hydroxide for soap (NaOH) has a wide range of uses. It is used in papermaking, soap, dyes, rayon, aluminum production, petroleum refining, cotton finishing, purification of coal tar products, as well as in food processing, woodworking, and the machinery industry.
